In real life I'm much less outspoken about my opinions. Call it social conditioning, but I have a certain distaste for being intentionally confrontational. But somehow the relative impersonality of the internet allows me in good conscience to voice thoughts that could potentially incite anger, if not outright hostility. In this respect, I think I'm not much different from the person who sends a nasty e-mail full of imprecations and name-calling that they would never use if they met the recipient face to face. Such is internet culture.
My interests are wide and varied. I have a tendency to debate topics with friends, then go online to see which of the arguments we used are best supported by fact and which one of us was just talking out of their ass (we take turns). One thing leads to another, and soon I'm checking out library books and obsessing over the topic for the next couple of weeks -- until a new topic of interest captures my attention.
Predominant themes in my interests are: spinoffs of H.P. Lovecraft, general and abnormal psychology, comparative religion, anthropology, social history of oppressed groups, and general topics related to geekdom.
Please bear in mind that this journal is written for personal pleasure, and as an avenue for venting. I take myself far too seriously, and lack the wit or biting sarcasm that would make up for this shortcoming. But if you've read this far, you probably enjoy more than single-serving topics, and if so, I hope that you enjoy what you read.
